QYAN and ISDAO

Illustrated report on gender ideology in Burkina Faso, Ghana and Senegal

WHO IS AFRAID OF GENDER?

Illustrated report on Study on “gender ideology” and the anti-gender campaigns that support it in Burkina Faso, Ghana and Senegal.

For QYAN and ISDAO

We created a beautifully illustrated Study report on gender ideology and anti-gender campaigns in West Africa. This study was commissioned by QAYN and ISDAO.

With carefully designed visual narrative, we tried to highlight the philosophy of the organisation to build an autonomous movement led by lesbian, queer women, trans and gender non-conforming young activists through advocacy, movement building and strengthening, guided by principles such as feminism, transparency,  empowerment, self-determination, inclusion, diversity, intersectionality, self-determination, equity and sustainability.

We have taken the critical lens in creating the illustrations that are cognizant of the layered history of LGBTQI movements and lives of gender non-confirming people in Africa and are also challenging the reproduction of colonial legacies via image-making.   The illustrations also are sensitive towards and attempt to honour the challenges faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people especially in West African region, where the study is based on. Representing non-binary people in their agency, creating the present and future they rightfully deserve.
